Robert A. Floyd, CAE, President of Strategic Leadership Consultants, has 29 years of achievement in association and nonprofit management, public affairs, building strategic alliances and communications, strategic planning, effective governance, board leadership training, and organizational performance.
Robert is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Society of Association Executives (TSAE), a 1200-member professional membership society. He received the TSAE Distinguished Executive Award.
Robert served as an officer of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). In 1998 he was named an ASAE Fellow.
Robert also led a major trade association and has lobbied before the Texas Legislature and the United States Congress. He has served on the board of directors of various nonprofit organizations, including the Mental Health Association in Texas and the Texas Association of Nonprofit Organizations (TANO). He also served on the board of directors of the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau.
He has held elective public office as a two-term school board trustee and also on a local water district board.
In November 1995, he was recruited to teach a six-week association-management training program in Zimbabwe, Africa. He administered an examination to establish an international standard for certification.
Robert holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Government from Texas State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Arizona. He currently teaches Nonprofit and Association Management at St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas, and State and Local Government at Austin Community College. He has published several articles on leadership and nonprofit management, and has special interests in the study of leadership, the American Civil War, and politics.
Robert is a native Texan and a 30-year resident of Austin. He served in the U.S. Army and is a Vietnam Veteran.
